At Last - we finally see Trump being held accountable for some of his egregious behaviour. Hopefully, this is only the tip of the iceberg, bribing a porn star to keep silent regarding his promiscuous activities, which is Trump all over; "I can do what I like, but everyone else has to obey the law." As to how much trouble Trump is in remains to be seen, but similar to Al Capone, who was convicted of tax evasion, which was the least of his crimes, Trump could be forced to face up to his murky past and held to account for his deceitful words and his treacherous behaviour. So long as Trump is taken out of American politics, giving space for healing American Democracy and creating better bipartisan relationships; this can only be a good thing for the USA and the rest of the Free World.
The question remains; will the majority of American people understand and agree that what their ancestors and the USA have fought for since it came into existence is worth fighting to keep?
As portrayed by Spencer Tracy in the film depicting the Nuremberg War Crimes trials, the judge's last lines:
"A country is not a rock; it is an extension of oneself. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult. Before the people of the world, let it now be noted that here in our decision, this is what we stand for; Justice, Truth and the value of a single human being."
It isn't just the United States where democracy, justice and truth are struggling - it is all over our world. We see the same sort of struggles here in the UK and in many other countries. But at some time, perhaps in the not-too-distant future, the people of our world will have to decide between right and wrong, between the easy but fatal way or the long hard road, between the betrayal of our own conscience or sacrifice.
So long as there are people who think supporting the likes of Trump, Taylor-Green, Gaetz and the like-minded or Johnson and his cronies is acceptable - we know there is a battle for the hearts and minds of our fellow man to be fought.
One would think we had learned these lessons by now - but apparently not. Our western success - and greed - may become our own undoing.
